First organized in 1989 and incorporated under the BC Society Act in
April 1992, the Impromaniacs have a 20-year history of commitment to
the Victoria arts, social, and business community. They have performed
throughout the capital region in venues including Fernwood Community
Association, The Belfry, La Boehme, Cinecenta, the Open Space Gallery,
Mocambo's Café, The Diner, Floyd's Diner, Kaleidoscope Theatre and the Victoria Event Centre.
In addition to their regular performances, the Impromaniacs have also
participated in and in some cases produced local arts Festivals. The
Impromaniacs are the creators of VIIF 2008, 2006, 2004, 2003, Singe 1997 and 2000 and the Alternative Arts
Festival. The Impromaniacs participated in Fringe 1992 and 1993 and
Vancouver International Improv Festival (in 2001, 2002 and 2005). |
The company has an active cast of approximately 15 performing members and 6 developing members, and holds open auditions throughout the year to encourage more community members to explore improvisation. Company members include computer architects, historical researchers, teachers, business owners, physicists, performing artists and students. They come from various areas throughout the Greater Victoria region and range in age from 18 to mid 40's. Diversity of thought and expression being crucial to the presentation of improvisational theatre, the company encourages people of all classes, genders, religions and ethnicities to participate and exists in an attitude of openness.
All members of the company, including the society directors, are volunteers, and any money raised contributes to the company's continued development.
